Growing Together

A treasure of growth, self-discovery, and skill-building awaits those who are willing to accept the vulnerability of working with others in a group or class setting.

For adults wanting to work on emotional regulation or interpersonal skills; parents and teens working out the bumps of adolescence; or caregivers needing some support themselves, we are better together than on our own.

  • Focusing on gaining skills essential for healthier relationships, this group engages both teens & a parent/caregiver in learning ways to stay mindfully connected to your body and emotions, better regulate intense emotions, be resilient in times of emotional an interpersonal distress, and communicate needs without damaging relationships.

Participants who complete this group often report lower levels of emotional distress and higher relationship satisfaction as they gain skills for navigating complicated feelings and relationships.

    • Groups are offered every spring, summer, and fall, meeting for 10 weeks with breaks for holidays.

  • Adult DBT-Informed Skills Groups are confidential, educational and collaborative experiences in which participants can learn and practice concrete skills to address extreme or chronic distress.

This group is for adults 20+ who experience their distress or impulsivity as a barrier to the life they want to live and desire to grow in confidence of taking hold of their emotions and becoming free of controlling urges and behaviors.

This group draws on the skills developed by Marsha Linehan in her therapeutic method called “DBT” which stands for Dialectical Behavior Therapy. The skills associated with this therapy have been found effective for a range of challenges including anxiety, anger, trouble managing emotions, reducing crisis and improving relationships. This group is considered DBT-Informed because it will not meet criteria for fully adherent DBT. We believe this format will increase accessibility to the skills for a variety of participants who do not need the intensive program.

The four sets of DBT skills are taught over the course of three 8-week sessions every year as follows:

    1. Mindfulness + Interpersonal Effectiveness

    2. Mindfulness + Emotion Regulation

    3. Mindfulness + Distress Tolerance

    • Groups meet weekly on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 - 8:30 pm.

  • Generations Deep Story Groups are confidential, small group experiences designed to help you go deeper in exploring your story and the stories of the generations before you, while providing educational and practical experiences in a supportive and encouraging environment.

Generations Deep Story Groups employ faith and therapy to help you discover how your beliefs and behaviors are influenced by the emotional health and behaviors of those who cared for you in your family of origin, which was impacted by those who cared for them, and so on. This impacts how you see yourself, others, the world around you, and God, often in more ways than you may realize.

Generations Deep Groups are facilitated by Gina Birkemeier, LPC, author of Generations Deep and Generations Deep: Write Your Healing Story, and co-facilitated by other clinically trained, trauma and faith-informed counselors and spiritual directors who understand the power of story and generational impact from both a professional and personal perspective. Our therapists take a holistic approach, recognizing the importance of your mental, physical, and spiritual well-being and incorporating effective practices from a variety of counseling therapies, story work, spiritual disciplines, somatic exercises, and other impactful components.
