Kathy is a Licensed Professional Counselor who earned her Ph.D. in Counseling, Counseling Supervision, and Education in 2015. She has worked in a variety of professional settings including public and private schools, a multi-disciplinary hospital setting, and private practice prior to joining CrossRoads. Kathy has great compassion for helping individuals, couples, and families working through conflict, trauma, grief, life transitions, and spiritual challenges. She also has a passion for and experience in working with missionaries and spiritual leaders.
Kathy understands taking the first steps in reaching out for counseling can be a frightening and challenging endeavor for many clients. She believes change and healing happens in a safe, caring counseling relationship through the process of being seen, known, and accepted in all our strengths and frailties, our proudest moments and our moments of deepest shame, regret, and failure. She works with clients to develop their own personal goals. Kathy also believes counseling includes helping clients think through how the changes they are making can be used to strengthen not only themselves but others in the world around them.
Kathy believes it is important to utilize approaches that include the “whole” person which includes the body, soul/spirit, emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. In her work, Kathy uses a variety of counseling models and theories that research supports to be highly effective such as attachment theory, emotion focused therapy, interpersonal therapy, cognitive-behavior theory, internal family systems, and somatic (body) work. Kathy has been trained in EMDR since 2017 (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), an evidence based effective approach to treating trauma.
Kathy lives with her husband, Steve, and their Yorkie. She has 3 adult children and 4 (beautiful!) grandchildren. She enjoys reading, music, woodworking projects, walking, funny jokes, and spending time with friends. However, her greatest joy is spending time with her family.
